Where is the name KASEN from?

When I was about 8/9 years old, I loved watching Power Rangers. It was my favourite show. My friends and I often acted out scenes, each choosing a favourite character. I picked the Red Ranger, Jason, because red was my favourite colour at the time, and I admired his role as the leader.

Years later, in junior high, I formed a rap group with my friends. I needed a unique and catchy rap name. One day, I had a lightbulb moment: why not draw inspiration from my childhood hero, Jason?

I decided to create the name KA$EN by taking Jason’s name, replacing the “J” with a “K” (from my name, Kwame), and changing “son” to “sen” to keep the same pronunciation. I thought it was cool and distinctive.

The name stuck.

My childhood friends still call me KA$EN.
